Rams-Patriots Week 14 odds

The 2020 NFL regular-season rolls on with Thursday Night Football and BetRivers.com has the latest Rams-Patriots Week 14 odds.

Following a 2-5 start to the season, the Patriots (+185 ML) have recovered nicely, winning four of their last five. But the home Rams (-3.5, -215 ML) have been just as impressive, having won their last four games and five of seven. The public is still torn, with just 55% of the ML handle and 59% of the spread handle backing Los Angeles. Under 43.5 is the most popular bet of the game,  and is backed by 60% of the O/U handle.

Bill Belichick vs. Jared Goff, the rematch.

The last time these two faced off against one another was 22 months ago at the snoozefest they call the Super Bowl.

Belichick got the best of it that day as Goff only completed 50-percent of his passes, with one interception. The Patriots held the Rams to three points en route to a 13-3 win. Now, this Patriots defense is very different from the one that took the field back then, but Belichick is still the puppet master.

At times this season, Goff has looked the part of a No. 1 overall pick, but as Rams’ fans will be quick to point out, there are moments where he seems completely lost despite the talent they have at wide receiver.

One of Goff’s worst games of the season came against the Dolphins a few weeks ago. Why am I telling you this? New England plays a very similar defensive scheme and that should concern Rams fans.

New England still struggles mightily on offense. Don’t let the 45 points from last week fool you. Most of that can be attributed to special teams. That said, the Rams have an excellent defense built perfectly to stop (or at minimum slow down) the offenses of today’s game. The issue with that is the New England Patriots play a style that’s more indicative of the 1950s.

What am I getting at? I think the Rams are a better team. I think this is less than an ideal matchup for them.

So what do we think? What are we expecting Thursday night?

I look back at Feb. 3 of 2019 to get a glimpse. Don’t expect a lot of points. Expect Goff to struggle. Expect the Patriots to keep it close if not win outright.

We’ve got five bets here.

  • Patriots +5.5
  • UNDER 45 points
  • Jared Goff UNDER 270.5 passing yards
  • Jared Goff OVER 0.5 interceptions
  • Damien Harris OVER 48.5 Rushing yards

Harris has averaged over 15 carries per game since Week 8. With that kind of volume, he should finish with closer to around 60 yards. Even in a tough matchup, this isn’t a spot for us to pass. If I’m right about how the game will go, the game script should favor Damien Harris.

Also, Harris was one of my fantasy RBs on my team that didn’t make the playoffs, so there’s no doubt he goes off this Thursday, right?
