We got the best version Giannis that I think we’re ever going to get in Game 2 on Thursday night. The Big Fella finished with 42 points, 12 boards, four assists and three blocks on 15-for-22 shooting from the floor in 40 minutes. It was incredible to watch.

Unfortunately, he was the only guy on the Bucks that was anywhere near that level. Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday struggled, and the Bucks just didn’t have enough on a night when Mikal Bridges made it look like the Suns had a Big Three.

What does that mean for Sunday night?

Let’s take a look at where the value lies for 2021 NBA Finals Game 3.

Some of the discussion about this series has been frustrating to listen to, because so much of it is critical about something that people really should not be critical of.

Specifically, I’m referring to Mike Budenholzer. There is no good option for Bud in this series. He can’t really switch everything, because there are too many players on his roster that can be hunted by Chris Paul and Devin Booker when those switches happen. He can’t play his typical drop coverage, because those two guards are perfectly designed to be able to beat said drop coverage. The bottom line is that the Suns are just a bad matchup for the Bucks, but that doesn’t mean the Bucks can’t win.

Giannis is one of the best players in the NBA. He showed that on Thursday. That was supposed to be his statement game … except for the fact that Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton combined for 28 points on 12-for-37 shooting from the floor and 2-for-9 shooting from three. Here’s a wild stat for you: Through two games, the Bucks are plus-four in the 75 minutes that Giannis has been on the floor. They are minus-27 in the 21 minutes that he is not on the floor.

Truth be told, I would make the argument that Bud has actually put together a couple of pretty solid game-plans through the first two games. The issue that he is running into is that his dudes aren’t playing well. When Mikal Bridges is definitively better than anyone not named Giannis, when Khris Middleton plays like Kate Middleton and Jrue Holiday plays like Drew Carey, Milwaukee simply does not have a chance.

I say all that to say this: I’m going to do something I never do in a situation like this. I’m going to through logic and x’s-and-o’s and everything else out the window. I’m going to bet on the Bucks in Game 3, even when favored by four points. They’re coming home in a must-win game. They’re coming off of a game where two of their stars played about as poorly as they can play.

I generally hate making plays where it feels like all I’m doing is trying to read the tea leaves and predict how human beings are going to react to a specific situation, but I just cannot help but feel like the Bucks are going to show up to play.
