Despite having to travel across the country on a short week and starting their third quarterback of the season, the Broncos +1 (+102 ML) are backed by 77% of the total game handle against the Jets (-115). New York has allowed 94 points through its first three games and is 0-3 ATS.

Rob Dauster is here to break down the matchup, which kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium and will be broadcast on NFL Network.

There have been some bad Thursday Night Football games over the years, but I cannot imagine there has been a worse one than the 0-3 Broncos traveling across the country to face the 0-3 Jets.

Here’s the situation that we’re in right now. Denver’s starting quarterback, Drew Lock, is hurt. He won’t be back until at least Week 5. Backup quarterback Jeff Driskel was benched, so the Broncos signed Blake Bortles off the street. But Bortles isn’t ready to start on a short week, so something called Brett Rypien will be starting for the Broncos tonight.

If you’re wondering how bad things are, when it was announced that Rypien was starting, this line moved from Denver -3 to the Jets -2, and is now Jets -1. That’s a huge swing considering how bad the Jets have been this season. They are 0-3, having been blown out in their last two games by a 49er team with basically everyone injured before a horrific, 36-7 loss to Indianapolis last week that saw Sam Darnold throw a pair of pick-sixes.

The Jets are 0-3 against the spread. Adam Gase seems to be one loss away from getting fired. They currently rank 31st in the league in DVOA.

And the only team below them?

The Broncos.

In the immortal words of David Rose, that’s disgusting

What’s even more disgusting is that I’m about to say to bet on the Broncos and Brett Rypien.

It’s not because I think he’s good or that I trust the Broncos in any way, shape, or form. It’s because I think that Gase may have lost this Jets team. There is no coach in the NFL that is worse at getting the best out of his players than Adam Gase. The Jets were dog-walked the last two weeks by teams that aren’t exactly playing their best football right now. I’m not exactly a believer in Darnold, but I am a believer in fading the Jets.

It’s not going to feel comfortable, and you may be better off just watching baseball today, but if you need that NFL action, fade the coach that may get fired if he loses.
