THURSDAY NBA PLAYOFF ODDS: CELTICS vs. HEAT

  • Game 2: 7:00 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Moneyline: Celtics -141, Heat +120
  • Spread: Celtics -2.5 (-115), Heat +2.5 (-109)
  • Over/Under: 209 points (-109/-112)
  • Implied Score: Celtics 105.75, Heat 103.25

After a scintillating Game 1 that saw Miami come from five points down in the final minute of regulation to force overtime, where Bam Adebayo kept the game from going to double OT with an all-time block on a Jayson Tatum dunk attempt, we head to Game 2 of what may be the most fascinating series of the 2020 NBA playoffs. The early public action is slightly on Celtics -141 ML, with 55% of total ML bets. But the strongest public side is Heat +2.5, receiving 62% of early spread bets.

After shooting under 33 percent from beyond the arc in the three games against the Celtics during the regular season, Miami hit better than 44 percent of their triples in Game 1. That includes a pair of absolutely ridiculous threes hit by Tyler Herro and Jimmy Butler in the final minute of regulation. Even if the Heat regress to shooting the 38 percent they shot on the season, that would significantly change things for the Celtics.

It’s important to note that O/U 209 points was the same as Game 1. The two teams hit the over with just over a minute to go in regulation.

But I think it’s also important to note here that, in NBA circles, Eric Spoelstra is viewed as the more creative and innovative tactician while Brad Stevens is at his best reacting to something once he has tape on it. That’s why the Celtics are 8-4 ATS in Game 2 of series in the Stevens era and 5-1 ATS as the favorites, according to Bet Labs.

I’ll take it a step further: If you think that Boston is going to win Game 2 of this series — which I do — than you should take a long look at Boston (+132) on the series line.
