NHL THURSDAY PICKS: TUCK’S TAKE

SABRES (4-6-2, 10pts) at CAPITALS (7-4-3, 17pts), 7 p.m. ET
Moneyline: Capitals -155, Sabres +133
Puck Line: Capitals -1 (+100), Sabres +1 (-120)
Over/Under: 6 goals (-112/-107)

Buffalo came back from their Covid break and looked, well… flat to put it politely. They were down 3-1 going into the 3rd period against the Islanders and had zero shots on net. Yes, you read that correctly. Zero shots. None. Not one. They followed that effort up by getting shut out on the following night.

Tonight they face-off against a Washington team that isn’t playing its best hockey and is still without their #1 goalie, but Washington (and the UNDER) are the plays nonetheless. The Pick(s): Capitals -152 ML, Under 6.0 (-105).

ISLANDERS (8-4-3, 19pts) at PENGUINS (7-6-1, 15pts), 7 p.m. ET
Moneyline: Penguins -112, Islanders -105
Puck Line: Penguins -1 (+150), Islanders +1 (-182)
Over/Under: 5.5 goals (-110/-108)

The Islanders are on an eight-game point streak and are back to their stingy ways. They’re getting contributions from all four lines and with Anthony Beauvillier back, they’re currently healthy. A healthy Islander team playing their #1 goaltender (Semyon Varlamov) is simply better than Pittsburgh yet the Penguins are favored. Yummy! The Pick: Islanders +100 ML.

RANGERS (4-7-3, 11pts) at FLYERS (8-3-2, 18pts), 7 p.m. ET
Moneyline: Flyers -109, Rangers -107
Puck Line: Flyers -1 (+160), Rangers +1 (-195)
Over/Under: 6 goals (+104/-124)

Artemi Panarin is back and that should be a shot in the arm for the reeling Rangers, but their defense is in tatters. Impressive rookie K’Andre Miller is playing tonight, but Jacob Trouba is out. The Flyers have Carter Hart in net and the Rangers can’t seem to score as of late. I expected this line to be closer to Philly -150, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the Flyers -113 ML. The Pick: Flyers -113 ML.

SENATORS (4-13-1, 9pts) at MAPLE LEAFS (12-3-2, 26pts), 7 p.m. ET
Moneyline: Maple Leafs -295, Senators +245
Puck Line: Maple Leafs -1.5 (-122), Senators +1.5 (+104)
Over/Under: 6.5 goals (-112/-107)

Toronto has the red hot Austin Matthews and it’s never fun betting against him, but the rest of their team is out of rhythm. That 2nd line (Tavares, Nylander) can’t seem to do anything these days. Ottawa is playing better than they normally do recently and after beating this Leafs’ team in an epic comeback a few days ago, they only lost 2-1 last night. At +255, I like the value we’re getting betting on Ottawa. The Pick: Senators +255 ML.

DEVILS (5-3-2, 12pts) at BRUINS (10-2-2, 22pts), 7 p.m. ET
Moneyline: Bruins -220, Devils +185
Puck Line: Bruins -1.5 (+114), Devils +1.5 (-136)
Over/Under: 5.5 goals (+100/-118)

Devil’s goalie Mackenzie Blackwood is playing as well as anyone and should keep this game close. Despite their record, Boston isn’t hitting on all cylinders. Their offense is a bit inconsistent so what you see is them winning a lot of one-goal games. That can certainly happen tonight, but in one-goal games, anything can happen. And when anything can happen, I like getting +185. The Pick(s): Devils +185 ML, Under 5.5 (-113).

KINGS (5-6-3, 13pts) at COYOTES (7-6-2, 16pts), 9 p.m. ET
Moneyline: Coyotes -155, Kings +133
Puck Line: Coyotes -1 (+106), Kings +1 (-125)
Over/Under: 5.5 goals (+104/-122)

Arizona is quietly playing very good hockey and with Darcy Kuemper in net, they have a chance to win any game. Tonight they play an over-achieving LA Kings team, but the value is on Arizona. If Jonathan Quick is in net for LA, I LOVE this bet. If it’s Cal Peterson, I like this bet.

Regardless, we’re firing… The Pick(s): Coyotes -152 ML, Under 5.5  (-117).
