Euro 2020 will kick off with a Group A match between two of my favorite futures bets.

I love the Italians at +800 to win the event. I also think that there is some nice value on Turkey to reach the semifinals at +800. They are a high ceiling, low floor kind of a squad, one that finished last in the Nations League in a group with Hungary, Serbia, and Russia that also happened to drill the Netherlands 4-2 and land draws against Germany and Croatia.

Go figure.

Anyway, getting into the betting strategy for this match, I think that it’s important to note just how good and dominant the Italians have been. They went 10-0 in Euro qualifying and won those ten matches by a combined score of 37-4. Turkey, however, has conceded 19 goals in their last 11 matches.

Now, I do think that it is important to note here just how talented this Turkish team is. Their backline features players from Liverpool, Ligue I champs Lille, Juventus, and Leicester City. Their best player, Hakan Calhanoglu, starred for AC Milan this past season. They are loaded with players that were contributors for really successful clubs. They are dangerous, especially if they get the chance to play on the counter, which I think they will be able to do against Italy.

It’s also worth noting that Italy’s star strikers combined for 40 goals in Serie A this season, while Ciro Immobile had 36 goals himself in Serie A in 2019-2020.

It’s also worth noting that Italy’s center backs are in their mid-30s and coming off of 12 consecutive months of playing.

To me, this screams something of a shootout. I love over 2.5 goals at +125. I also love betting both teams to score at +140. I think we’re going to see some fireworks.
