Sports Betting in Colorado Kicks off with a Futures Bet on a Denver Broncos wide receiver
Colorado sports betting launched today, and Chauncey Billups did the honors of placing the first legal bet with BetRivers.com, the state’s groundbreaking online sportsbook. His bet? He put $100 on Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
We won’t know the outcome of Billups’ bet until 2021, but it’s already clear that the NBA All-Star and former University of Colorado star knows a good bet when he sees one. BetRivers.com is the first online sportsbook to take bets in Colorado, following the brand’s previous successful launches in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Indiana.
Billups feels that America’s loosening sports betting laws are a positive development.
“This is huge for the state of Colorado, both the economy and for avid sports fans in the state,” he said. “Betting has become such a big part of the daily sports conversation and this move is a huge step in the right direction for the industry and the sports world.”
Billups was born and raised in Denver and in high school was named Mr. Colorado Basketball three times. He spent three years playing for the University of Colorado Buffaloes, and during the ’96-97 season, he led Colorado to an upset victory over Indiana in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Boston Celtics drafted Billups with the third pick of the 1997 NBA Draft. From there, Billups became a journeyman of sorts, earning the nickname “Mr. Big Shot” for his ability to hit clutch shots under pressure. In 2004, the 5-time NBA All-Star reached the apex of his career with the Detroit Pistons — he was named Finals MVP after propelling his team to a championship over the L.A. Lakers.
Even in his retirement, he loves competition and sports action.
“Above all else, I am a sports fan,” said Billups. “I love football, just love it. Boxing and baseball too. I love being able to learn more and have options when you want to get involved and make a play.”
Using the BetRivers.com website or app, players can place bets on sporting events worldwide, including football, basketball, golf, tennis, eSports and soccer, as well as international events including pro darts, table tennis, basketball, and much more.
You don’t have to be an NBA All-Star like Billups to place a bet at BetRivers.com, nor do you have to be a state resident — you simply need to be within state lines when you wager. And of course, you must be at least age 21. Visit BetRivers.com to join Chauncey and other Colorado sports fanatics in the exciting world of legalized sports betting!
