College Football Week 6 Picks:
#19 Virginia Tech (2-0) at #8 North Carolina (2-0). 12:00 p.m. ET
Moneyline: Virginia Tech +150, North Carolina -182
Spread: North Carolina -4
Over/Under: 59 points
You have to give credit to Virginia Tech Head Coach Justin Fuente. Just a couple of weeks ago, he was worried about being able to field a team due to COVID-19, and yet he’s managed to will his team into a Top 25 ranking and 2-0 record. The Hokies must find a way to slow down Tar Heels quarterback Sam Howell, and their seven sacks against Duke suggest they’ll be able to.
Virginia Tech is 6-1 in its last seven games against the Heels, so I’m grabbing the points. The pick: Virginia Tech +4.

#22 Texas (2-1) at Oklahoma (1-2). 12:00 p.m. ET
Moneyline: Texas +106, Oklahoma -129
Spread: Oklahoma -2
Over/Under: 72.5 points
There’s a new nickname for Tom Herman in Austin—“Turtle Tom”—and it has nothing to do with the Texas Head Coach perhaps developing an off-season passion for saving aquatic sea life. Herman has a maddening propensity for immediately going to a conservative game plan when his Longhorns hold a lead, and it’s partially the reason why Texas was upset by TCU.
Oklahoma might be unranked for the first time since 2016, but if Herman predictably goes into his shell, he’ll emerge with another loss. The pick: Oklahoma -2.

#14 Tennessee (2-0) at #3 Georgia (2-0). 3:30 p.m. ET
Moneyline: Tennessee +400, Georgia -560
Spread: Georgia -12.5
Over/Under 42.5 points
It’s hard to find a better story in college football than Georgia’s Stetson Bennett. Stetson is a great name for both an SEC quarterback and also a rugged, sexy cowboy cologne, but 12 points is a lot to lay against a Vols squad that has won eight consecutive games since last season. This is a big letdown spot for the Bulldogs after that huge win against Auburn, and Tennessee should have success on the ground with Ty Chandler and Eric Gray. The pick: Tennessee +12.5.

Middle Tennessee State (0-4) at Florida International (0-1). 4:00 p.m. ET
Moneyline: Middle Tennessee +145, Florida International -177
Spread: Florida International -4
Over/Under: 56.5 points
Every now and then, I simply like to “follow the money,” and this is one of those plays. I certainly wouldn’t recommend watching a game between two teams who have a combined record of 0-5 unless your self-esteem has hit rock bottom, but there is some cash to be made on Saturday in Miami.
The Over is 4-0 in Florida International’s last four games, and the Total has been bet up to 56.5. Let’s see if it’s the right side. The pick: Over 56.5.

Florida State (1-2) at #5 Notre Dame (2-0). 7:30 p.m. ET
Moneyline: Florida State +1000, Notre Dame -2000
Spread: Notre Dame -20.5
Over/Under: 52 points
First, James Blackman was the signal-caller for the Seminoles. Then it was Tate Rodemaker. And now, Florida State is rolling with Jordan Travis after he rallied Florida State from a two-touchdown deficit against Jacksonville State.
Yep, the Noles have had three quarterbacks in three games, and while Travis looked sharp in last Saturday’s win, I need more than a nice showing against an FCS school before I’m willing to trust him in South Bend. BetRivers.com has a $2,500 bet on Florida State +21 (-110) an a $350 bet on Florida State +1050. Interesting. The pick: Notre Dame -21
