2020 Tour Championship Odds: previewing the format, starting scores, and props
It’s all come down to this. The 2020 TOUR Championship, the final stop on the 2020 PGA Tour schedule is here, and the unique FedEx Cup Playoff format makes for some interesting 2020 TOUR Championship odds and lines.
The FedEx Cup Playoffs have reached the final event, the 2020 TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club outside Atlanta this weekend. The 30-player field is made up of the best golfers in the world who accumulated enough points over the 2020 season to have a shot at the $15 million first-place prize. The No. 1 ranked golfer begins the TOUR Championship -10, with the remaining golfers starting between two and ten shots behind the leader.

2020 TOUR Championship Betting Preview
Jon Rahm (+300 to win) enters the final event of the year as the No. 2 golfer in the world, having won the BMW Championship last weekend in a playoff thanks to an incredible 66-foot birdie putt to win. Rahm has been playing very well since July 1, with two wins, a top 10 and a top 15 finish. Rahm enters the event as one of the top three most popular picks to win, and the second shortest odds among the 30-player field.
The only golfer with shorter odds than Rahm is Dustin Johnson (+188), the No. 1 golfer in the world, who came up short to Rahm despite sinking a 43-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to force the playoff. Despite the second-place finish, Johnson is the hottest golfer on the planet. Since the start of August has finished no worse than 12th, with one win and two second-place finishes, and has failed to break 70 just once since the beginning of the month. By virtue of finishing the 2020 season with the most FedEx Cup points, Johnson will start the TOUR Championship with a score of -10. He will hold a two-stroke lead over second-place Rahm and a ten-stroke lead over Billy Horschel, the final qualifier.
Rory McIlroy (+2200) loves playing at East Lake, evident by his 2017 and 2019 TOUR Championship victories at the club. McIlroy was in contention at the BMW Championship until some putter issues cropped up. McIlroy finished T12 but is still searching for his first top 10 finish since February. One important thing to note: McIlroy’s wife is expecting to give birth to the couple’s first child any day now, and could withdraw if he shes into labor.
The wild card near the top of the championship odds list is Webb Simpson (+900), who withdrew from the BMW Championship due to his caddie’s positive COVID test. While some might argue athletes need to stay active for a playoff run, Simpson’s competitors spent four days slogging through a U.S. Open-like course at Olympia Fields. Simpson may have a bit of rust, but he will undoubtedly be one of the freshest bodies come Friday.
BetRivers.com is also providing 2020 TOUR Championship odds not including the FedEx Cup starting positions. When looking at the event as an even playing field, Hideki Matsuyama and Collin Morikawa — both +1800 to win — are intriguing plays. Matsuyama held the lead early on last week and was in contention late, finishing T3 behind just Rahm and Johnson. For Morikawa is a bounce-back special. His first win of the season — at the Workday Open — came a week after missing the cut at the Travelers Championship. His second win of the season — at the PGA Championship — came a week after needing two incredible weekend rounds just to crack the top 20 at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Could it be deja vu all over again? Morikawa was +9 heading into Saturday last week but used back-to-back 68’s to finish T20.
